چکیده
Diabetes mellitus is the most common endocrine disease in the world today; millions of people the world over suffer from this disease. It is characterized by a disruption in glucose metabolism, resulting in short and long term complications that affect multiple organ systems, particularly the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and blood vessels. Diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus and can affect any part of the nervous system. Patients with diabetic neuropathy may experience numbness, paresthesias, severe hyperesthesias, or pain. Diabetic neuropathy classically presents as a sudden wrist or foot drop or ophthalmoplegia involving cranial nerves , , and . Partial ophthalmoplegia due to third nerve palsy with an intact pupil is a frequent cause of diplopia observed in diabetic patients. A Rare Presentation of Isolated Oculomotor Nerve Palsy due to Multiple Sclerosis in a Child
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory, demyelinating, neurodegenerative disorder of the central nervous system (CNS) of unknown etiology. Isolated oculomotor nerve palsy is found rarely in children with MS. We present a case of MS in 10-year-old boy, who had bilateral ptosis associated with medial gaze restriction. The extraocular muscle examination demonstrated bilateral adduction pa...

Subjects with Bell's palsy and healthy individuals were treated with moxibustion thermal stimulation on the Hegu (LI4) acupoint; an infrared thermal imaging system was used to observe facial-temperature changes. Bell's palsy patients developed low or high temperatures at the affected side, with poor symmetry. Healthy people showed high temperatures on the forehead, medial angle of the eye, nasa...
متن کاملEfficacy of acupuncture and moxibustion in treating Bell's palsy: a multicenter randomized controlled trial in China.
BACKGROUND Bell's palsy involves acute facial paralysis due to inflammation of the facial nerve. Acupuncture and moxibustion (acu-moxi) is beneficial in treating facial palsy. In order to verify the efficacy of acu-moxi on Bell's palsy, a randomized single-blind, multicenter clinical trial was performed. METHODS A total of 480 patients from four clinical centers were involved in this trial, o...

Background and Aim: Oculomotor palsy (Third cranial nerve) in diabetic patients is presented with opthalmoplegia with pupil sparing. Other factors which can mimic third nerve palsy consist of compressive lesions such as posterior circulation aneurysm. Although these lesions are associated with opthalmoplegia with pupil involvement, in some cases pupil sparing is not a reliable symptom in ischem...

OBJECTIVE To explore the best intervention time of acupuncture and moxibustion for peripheral facial palsy (Bell's palsy) and the clinical advantage program of selective treatment with acupuncture and moxibustion. METHODS Multi-central large-sample randomized controlled trial was carried out. Nine hundreds cases of Bell's palsy were randomized into 5 treatment groups, named selective filiform...
